Harmonic Interval = memainkan dua nada secara bersamaan ada pun yang sering dimainkan dalam permainan melodi adalah interval 3 (Major3rd/Minor3rd), interval 6 (Major6th/Minor6th) dan interval 8 (octave) Teknik interval ini ada dua macam : Interval juga bisa menjadi salah satu teknik untuk pengisian melodi. Misal, dari tangga nada mayor diatonis ada nada yang bergeser mundur, hanya nada ke-3 (3b) sajah, maka akan terlihat susunan interval seperti : 1 – 1/2 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1/2, susunan interval ini adalah formula untuk membentuk tangga nada minor melodic ( minor Ionian). Berbagai macam tangga nada (tangga nada/Modes) ditentukan oleh banyak susunan variasi interval… misal interval untuk tangga nada mayor diatonis (ionian) tersusun seperti 1 – 1 – 1/2 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1/2 nah, jika salah satu interval itu dinaikan atau diturunkan maka akan membentuk tangga nada diatonis baru.

The research findings revealed that Islamidar had a talent in music since he was a child. The data gathered then was analyzed by using ethnography data analysis technique.

The data was gotten through interview, direct observation and documentation. This was a qualitative research which used Biography method. This a article was intended to reveal the phenomena of Islamidar in the traditional music art in West Sumatera including him ideas, creativity and him contribution toward the development of Minagkabau traditional music in West Sumatera.
